SUMMARY

The Educator, Emergency Medical Service Implements, evaluates and assists in revising all initial training, in-services and continuing education programs for pre-hospital providers in the Presence Regional EMS System.  Assists with the maintenance of quality management guidelines.  Serves as a liaison between Presence Health and other health care agencies and hospitals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Implements, evaluates, and assists in revising all initial training and continuing education for all levels of pre-hospital providers in the Presence Health Regional EMS System.
  2. Assists in developing an annual calendar of initial and continuing education offerings for all levels of pre-hospital providers in the EMS system.  
  3. Asists in planning the content and format of educational programs including lectures, workshops and clinical experiences.  Discusses programs with the provider group and the EMS coordinator.  Ensures congruence of educational programs within the system with the medical center and department philosophies and policies.
  4. Prepares assignments and examinations to determine student progress and grades.  Maintains all required student records and prepares all related reports.  Counsels and guides students concerning professional goals and educational needs and problems.
  5. Collaborates with the EMS System Coordinator and the EMS Education Coordinator in creating a vision for future development of the EMS system regarding educational needs.

Education and/or Experience                                                              

High School diploma or G.E.D is required. A level of knowledge gained through either a) the completion of an EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Paramedic certification with two years of field experience and two years’ experience training EMT-Bs or EMT-Is to gain understanding of EMT procedures and education methods or b) a current state of Illinois license as a Registered Nurse with a minimum of five years of clinical experience in Emergent and/or Critical Care is required.

Computer Skills                                                          

Basic computer knowledge required.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver’s license is required.  Illinois EMT-I, EMT-P or Registered Nurse with a current Illinois License is required. CPR certification required.

 

ACLS, ITLS, and PALS or PEPP certification is preferred. Instructor status in CPR, ACLS, ITLS, and PALS or PEPP preferred. Illinois Lead Instructor preferred.
