The Physical Therapy Assistant performs physical therapy treatments and provides exercise instruction/demonstration for assigned patients using the principles and practices of physical therapy in accordance with the patient's age, developmental level and diagnosis. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.



    • Under direction of the physical therapist, provides direct patient treatment based on current physical therapy practice as determined by evaluation performed by the physical therapist.
    • Under direction of the physical therapist, provides education to patient and family regarding patient’s abilities and need for assistance and continued therapeutic intervention.
    • Under direction of the physical therapist, consults with physicians on patient's progress and complications with treatment.
    • Prepares written/computerized documentation as required by the profession and the department.
    • Communicates observations, facts and comments with nursing and interdisciplinary members, individually, and through team meetings to ensure efficient coordination of the overall health care plan.
    • Arranges work schedule to make efficient use of direct and non-direct patient care time. Provides weekend coverage according to guidelines of rotation/department.

Education and/or Experience

Associates Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program. Six months of experience required.

Computer Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word).


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current license or license-eligible as a Physical Therapist Assistant by the State of Illinois. Current CPR certification.
