The Manager, Rehabilitation Services provides overall leadership, administration, and coordination of patient care services for the department of Rehabilitation Services and participates in the development, management and growth of the facility. Serves as an advocate for quality patient care and service excellence. Plans, coordinates, controls, directs and evaluates patient services by the Department of Rehabilitation Services and the personnel responsible for the delivery of those services. Works collaboratively and serves as a resource to clinical staff, administrators, the community and physicians.



  1. Facilitates the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intra-departmental care and/or services. Participates in interdepartmental or multi-disciplinary groups to ensure that department’s services are effectively integrated into organization’s system for delivering patient care.
  2. Provides daily leadership through the following:  encourages individual performance at the maximum capability and licensure; is visible and responsive to the needs of employees, physicians, patients and customers; is entrepreneurial and creative in approach to achievement of goals; promotes teamwork and models behavior.
  3. Develops and maintains effective relationships and promotes positive communications with patients, co-workers, physicians and other internal departments. Maintains confidentiality and privileged communication.
  4. Plans, organizes, and implements updates in programs, technology, and/or policies and procedures to incorporate changes in the marketplace, regulatory requirements, SFH needs, or patient needs.
  5. With the department’s Medical Director, evaluates and develops new departmental programs and services for the Hospital (either directly or through subordinates).  Analyzes strengths/weaknesses of current programs and identifies opportunities for marketing and service improvements.  Works with Director, Rehabilitation, and Skilled Nursing and team to develop services, products, and programs to support business development initiatives.
  6. Selects, trains/orients, and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinates); develops departmental standards for performance in conjunction with organizational standards. Manages employee retention issues; coaches performance; monitors attendance.
  7. Evaluates overall team performance through direct observation, chart reviews and the quality management process; and assures compliance with established standards and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control, quality improvement and other regulatory requirements.
  8. Develops and recommends department operating and capital budgets and ensures that the department operates within budget.  Develops and implements strategies for cost management.
  9. Provides for professional development of self and staff through participation in seminars, workshops, professional affiliations and educational programs to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.  Collaborates with others responsible for organization-wide education to assure their learning needs are identified and addressed.

    Education and/or Experience                                                              
    Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Doctorate Degree in Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy required. Five years of progressively responsible career advancement required.
    Three years of experience in an inpatient rehabilitation facility preferred.
    Computer Skills                                                          
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    Current licensure by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation required. Basic Life Support certification required.
